Today I saw A NEEDLE AND THREAD, reminding me of Jesus's words regarding the new relationship we can have with God through Him: "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved". (Matthew 9:16-17). This account is similarly worded in the gospels of Luke and Mark. Jesus came to bring a new covenant relationship with our Father God, whereby He has come to save everyone by His love and actions in contrast to our merits and actions. The wonderful context of this message are the actions of Jesus. Verses 18-19 goes on to tell us that "while He was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him and said, My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live. Jesus got up and went with him, and so did His disciples". There then follows accounts of Jesus bringing that girl back to life, healing a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years, restoring sight to 2 blind men and freeing a mute man, "teaching and healing every disease and sickness" (Matthew 9:35).

The gift of Life is free but so also is our will. We are not being forced to receive this new covenant with God or indeed to have any covenant relationship with God. I give these daily devotionals because I so want you to know what is available to you.
