Today I saw a picture of a length of rope with knots placed in strategic positions. Some people use knots to remind themselves that they have something to remember. That does not work for me as, after tying the knots, I don't remember what the knots are meant to remind me of! However, the idea of something tangible or an act to remember a past event is exemplified in the bible. For instance, when God did an awesome miracle such as parting the waters of the River Jordan (Joshua 3 and 4) or gave amazing promises such as God promising Jacob that many generations would be blessed through him. (Genesis 28), the 12 tribes of Israel and Jacob respectively put large memory stones in the places where these events took place. Using actions and tangible resources is an effective teaching/learning method which I am sure we can all recognise. We can so easily forget the amazing acts God has performed in our life. The human propensity to focus on the one negative amongst many positives requires concrete reminders of God's goodness. Let's find creative ways to remind ourselves on how awesome God is.
