I saw an image of a salamander which, astonishingly, has the ability to regenerate some of its internal organs as well as its limbs. It has good defense mechanisms for surviving fires which has helped build up the myth that salamanders can totally withstand fires. It sheds its skin on a regular basis. Salamanders are not specifically mentioned in the bible but the characteristics of regeneration, good survival skills in fire (representing our faith during trials and tribulations) and renewal of skin are good analogies of a Christian life. "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come". (2 Corinthian 5:17). When we give our lives to Jesus Christ He gives us eternal life and the Holy Spirit lives in us to guide us, increase our faith and renew our hearts and minds to love and think increasingly like God.
