Description

Fire is depicted in various contexts in the bible such as as a metaphorical testing crucible for our actions, is sometimes representative of God's wrath, John the Baptist told everybody that Jesus baptised with the Holy Spirit and fire, the Holy Spirit first descended on the waiting disciples in the form of tongues of fire and we are warned by Jesus's brother James that the words uttered by our tongues can have a devastating effect like an out of control fire. Moses met God in a burning bush that never perished as God is in control of the fire. Similarly when prophet Daniel was thrown, with 2 of his compatriots, into a raging fire by King Nebuchadnezzar they survived without even smelling of smoke. This was because Jesus accompanied them in the fire. With God as creator and reigning supreme over even fire, let us not be fearful if we are seemingly in an out of control situation. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)
