Today I was reminded of the apple pie bed practical joke, whereby a bed looks like it has been properly made but in fact a sheet has been folded back on itself so that a person's legs cannot be stretched out in the bed. This is fun deception but Satan, also known as the devil, father of lies and Lucifer (Latin for bearer of light and he masquerades as an angel of light - See 2 Corinthians 11:14) also deceives us with seemingly good outward appearances but his intention is to wreak havoc and to destroy our lives. "The devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). The preceding verse already tells us how to defend ourselves from his attack, so we can ignore his roars. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you". In other words, trust that you need God and trust that He has your best interests at heart. If not, you are easy prey for the devil as he will be delighted to offer you alternatives to God and to veer you away from the eternal life God has for you.
