Today I saw a picture of a faceless old man sitting on a bench. This is a good reminder that we should be taking care of the elderly. Do we know what they might be thinking these days - regrets of things they have done, regrets of things they haven't done, the loss of loved ones etc? Maybe they are lonely? God wants us to be gentle and patient and to show respect to the elderly. Leviticus 19:32: "You shall stand up before the grey head and honour the face of an old man ...". Apostle Paul advised that we should "not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father ..." (1 Timothy 5:1). There are many bible verses along these lines. Indeed, we are to help the frail but also, the elderly can be very wise and we should be open to receiving from them too.
