In the context of only one transient life on this earth, then a suffering life cannot be justified by a loving God. However, in the context of eternal life beyond our transient life on earth, we can have a different slant on horrors on this earth even if we are still struggling in our understanding of God's purposes and His love. Without eternal life, we are doomed and the sufferings on earth only reveal a cruel unloving God. Eternal life is the only explanation and answer. May we build up our faith in God and His gift of eternal life to give us hope which we can share with others. "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son". (1 John 5:11)
