Description

The Old Testament Law prescribed that a perfect, unblemished lamb had to be sacrificed every year by the High Priest of the Temple to honour God and to atone for all mankind's sins, so we can be reconciled to God. When John the Baptist, saw his younger cousin Jesus, he prophetically declared: "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:28). He knew that Jesus had specifically come to this earth to die for mankind as a perfect unblemished sacrifice which would do the job once and for all, instead of annually (see Hebrews 7:27). Prophet Isaiah had prophesied this hundreds of years earlier (53:7) and another prophet even knew our Saviour would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). God intentionally sent His only Son down to earth to save us, being the only way we have. (John 3:16; John 14:6) Jesus had to live his entire life without any sin whatsoever. If we believe that Jesus did that to save all mankind, then the least we can do is to try to live our lives connected to God. "Do you not know that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God. You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). God does not own us as such but we are His own children and it was His son Jesus Who paid the price with His life. We thank and honour God with our bodies through trust and obedience.
