Today I am reminded of Matthew 6:14 "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us". Jesus tells us to forgive 70 X 7. With the number 7 signifying completeness, Jesus's figure represents the absolute necessity to forgive completely. What a tough call that is. It helps to remember that Jesus understands that we start off as spiritual 'newborn babies' and that we are growing up in our salvation (1 Peter 2:1) so it is a process to learn to wholly forgive. Jesus exemplified enduring insults, suffering and injustice, whilst trusting that God "judges justly" (1 Peter 2:) and we can hold onto that Truth too. Another point to remember is that none of us is perfect so let's be careful not to judge others with faults we may have. We will be judged on the very aspects we judge others. (Matthew 7:1-2). Jesus wants us to humbly acknowledge how much we go wrong and that He has forgiven us completely (in the absolute sense of 70x7). That is such good news.
