Today's devotional is more a series of thoughts than a picture. I think on Jesus at the Last Supper, before He was crucified, telling his disciples that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood as represented by the bread and wine He offered them. (See Matthew 26:26-28). This is not cannabalism but of spiritual significance. As we looked at last Saturday, Mary conceived of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was a spiritual being who took on human form. John chapter 6 is such an important chapter in directing us towards an understanding of this though we need the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us this profound truth. John 6 starts with Jesus literally feeding 5000 with bread. Later, as recorded in that same chapter, Jesus declares that He is the Bread of Life. He is equating the natural with the spiritual. "...'my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life ...Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world... Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drinks his blood, you have no life in
you ...for my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink'. ..On hearing it, many of his disciples said, 'This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?'...Jesus said, 'Does this offend you? Then what if you see the son of Man ascend to where he was before! The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you - they are full of the Spirit and life." (John 6:40, 51, 53, 55, 69, 61-63). If you believe that Jesus did indeed return to heaven in spiritual form, then you can believe that it is His spiritual body which He is referring to and wants us to receive.
