Today we are reminded of the account of Mary Magdalene, a sinful woman by her own admission, who was so grateful to Jesus for saving her from her life of sin that she poured expensive perfumed oil on to His feet to show her gratitude, love and devotion. Jesus explained to those around who were indignant and aghast at what they perceived as wastage of the extremely valuable oil, that the more we understand and appreciate the unconditional giving to us from another, the more grateful we are. (Luke 7:36-50). Do we understand that Jesus has taken away our sins and reinstated the eternal life God wanted for mankind all along? We all have the free will to receive this free gift but do we believe in it in the first place? We can actually ask God to give us belief. As one father said in the bible when wanting Jesus to heal his son - "Lord I believe, help my unbelief" (Mark 9:24). Jesus gave him belief and healed his son. We can also simply ask Jesus for belief in His saving of us.
