Description

Today I was drawn to the colour purple which has different connotations for different people. It draws me to one account in the bible, of a lady called Lydia who was a dealer in purple cloth. This would have been a lucrative business in those days as it was very difficult to get hold of purple dye. It was extracted from the mucous of particular sea snails. With this scarcity, it was related to people of royalty and wealth as they were the only ones who could afford clothes of purple dye. It was even considered by some as more valuable than gold. Lydia already had a faith in God and on hearing about Jesus from apostle Paul she and her household were baptized and received Him as their Lord. (Acts 16:13-15) There are the only 3 verses in the bible that refer to Lydia and yet, how significant was her conversion, even more valuable than what we consider more valuable than gold. Eternal life.
