This morning I saw a beautiful BBC picture of the arid Atacama desert, Chile in bloom, produced by rare rain watering hidden seeds of wildfowers. To whom or what do we attribute this phenomenon? About 600 years before Christ was born, Prophet Jeremiah warned the people of Judah and Jerusalem to repent of their idolatry and complete disregard of God. "They do not say to themselves, 'Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest'. " (Jeremiah 5:24). Later, Jeremiah speaks for the people during a fierce drought, "Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, LORD our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this" (Jeremiah 14:22). Why wait until you desperately need God to acknowledge His existence and to thank Him for His constant provision?
