Today, as I was reciting the Lord's Prayer I was contemplating on how easy it is to let the mechanics of muscle memory take over and I could complete the prayer without considering the words at all. There is some benefit in muscle memory in actions and words because it can eradicate the stress of learning and the words can flood back to us just when we need them in, say, a time of crisis. However, we also need to learn to make a conscious decision to intentionally meditate on God's words and spend quiet time with the Lord, simply being silent and waiting for Him to reveal Himself to us. I saw an image of grass with the recognition that it is indeed growing, despite us not seeing it doing so in front of our eyes. Most of us know how much we miss of what is around us when we hurtle through our day. Let's not hurtle through our quiet prayer time and miss what God has for us, but patiently wait to hear from Him.
