Big waves can represent life's challenges which can sometimes be ridden but often require the help of God to dissipate them into white caps on the sea. The Psalmist sings of God's creative power over everything. "You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them" (Psalm 89:9). That same Psalmist prophesies that King David's throne will endure forever (v.28-29, 35-36). This fulfilment is explained hundreds of years later in the gospel of Matthew, with Joseph having been a descendant of David. "Thus there were 14 generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile in Babylon, and 14 from the exile to the Messiah. This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 1 :17-18). We can have eternal life through Jesus, descended from the line of King David as prophesied through the Holy Spirit 500 - 600 years before Jesus was born!
