Description

So, who's sick of talking about privilege in America? Right, not us, so bear with us as we dive right in. We believe this is still an important conversation. Plus, one of our cohosts has had quite a few run-ins with the law (can't wait for you to hear that story), and both Tiffany and Ashley have served as prison chaplains in America. Whether we're talking about race or gender, it's true that there are things that people with a certain skin color, and men, will just never have to deal with, ever. Gina Crosley-Corcoran, author of the essay, "Explaining White Privilege to a Broke White Person," says, "Recognizing privilege simply means being aware that some people have to work much harder just to experience the things you take for granted (if they ever can experience them at all)." If you've been looking for a safe space to listen to helpful dialogue that won't shame you or diminish you tune into this episode of Why Tho. As promised we recommend the book The Very Good Gospel by Lisa Sharon Harper for a more in-depth discussion, and if you're a clergy leader, we recommend Lisa's coaching and speaking, through her organization, Freedom Road. We also recommend the podcast Pantsuit Politics. ("Sarah from the left. Beth from the right. No shouting. No insults. Plenty of nuance.") We're grateful you tuned in!
