Episode 7 - Emeka
In episode 7 of The Shuffle Curious Podcast, we had guest Emeka Okoronkwo come on and talk about his Shuffle Journey. Emeka expressed his love for shuffling and how attending festivals, battles and visiting other communities have contributed to his journey. The episode begins with a discussion on imposter syndrome and how shufflers often experience it. Emeka then shares his first experience seeing shuffling at a festival and how it inspired him to find other avenues to express himself through music, with shuffling appearing to be the best option. He was moved by the sight of shufflers expressing themselves to the music and having a great time.
Emeka describes the power of attending festivals and how it has contributed to his progression in shuffling. He talks about his experiences at Dream State and EDC Las Vegas, where he was able to immerse himself in the community and gain inspiration from other shufflers. Emeka also talks about his experiences at battles, including the Nameless Battles in New York City and the Mile High Shufflers’ Kill Off, where he got to know other shufflers, and garnered inspiration from their different styles.
Throughout his journey, Emeka has experienced both ups and downs in his progression, which he talks about in detail.. He has found community through shuffling and has even moved to denver to be closer to a community that he has met through the dance.
The episode also touches on shuffling etiquette and how to properly interact with shufflers in a show environment. This includes topics such as asking for consent when filming shufflers and sharing space with other ravers.
Overall, the episode provides a comprehensive look into Emeka's journey in shuffling, from his first experience at a festival to his involvement in the community and attending battles. It also highlights community, achieving flow states and shuffle/rave etiquette!
Bio:
Emeka is an artist currently focused on content creation surrounding dancing but plans to span into other areas. Born and raised in Topeka, KS, he recently moved to Denver in Feb. of 2023 after falling in love with the community and music scene there late in 2022. Emeka frequents any events where he has the chance to stomp bugs, but also has many other interests including, but, not limited to: DJing, fashion, crafting, traveling, cooking/baking, and gaming.
