"To laugh often and much; win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; This is to have succeeded". -Emerson
“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded.”
We’re all guilty of making our players lives harder (temporarily) , I’d like to hope that’s to help make another time in their life easier because you’ve coached them.
Maybe we can change that to reflect coaching more. “To know even 1 player has loved the game more because you were their coach’ or ‘to know even 1 player has felt included in something bigger than themselves because you were their coach’ or…’even 1 player has happy memories of their sport because you were their coach’.
I challenge you , as I have before, to define success for yourself. Wooden did it. Emerson did it. You can do it, too.
