In a time where we have seen people rally behind causes from the global BLM movements to the more local campaigns like the GofundMe page for the Stormzy lookalike Akwasi or more recently the student who received a huge donation to her GofundMe page from Taylor swift. TheNineToFivers explore what it is that causes people to support one cause and ignore others. Whatever the reason, it is clear that there is massive power in unity and certain routes to stability, affluence and success are only accessible when you work together. XO explores his idea of how black people can harness the power of unity and position themselves for a better future where injustices like those suffered by the likes of Jacob Blake and others will be met with the full retribution of an empowered black people. There are more things that contribute to success and with the big results fiasco orchestrated by the government and people’s future being decided via algorithms, it highlights the classism that exists in society and the incompetence of those in charge. Entitlement is a word that is now synonymous with this generation, some of the entitlement is rational but a lot has no basis other than a deep feeling with, whether that be for life partners, work partner, gifts or otherwise. Is even a bad thing to be entitled? Do entitled people set goals or do they just sit a wait for whatever it is they feel they are owed. Successful people tend to have a plan and successfully execute it but does success corrupt? Or does it just expose your character flaws? As we have seen with the Tory Lanes situation, one incident can dramatically alter someone’s opinion of you and change your life completely. One thing that doesn’t seem to change however is the fact that sex sells. WAP shot to number one with many criticizing the vulgarity of the lyrics and video. Is this female empowerment or simple trash? Fair point or double standards? Is this simply a shortcut to fame? At what point do you stand by your morals?
