Description

In an introspective episode TheNineToFivers explore why we as humans often say one thing but then do another. It is a constant state of hypocrisy and raised expectation that when dashed, leads to a whole host of negative emotions and yet the cycle usually continues  and sometimes unconsciously. The emerging England stars Foden and Greenwood fell victim to this and fell at the first hurdle after stating how much breaking into the England team meant to them. Is it just a human trait? Over promising and under-delivering? How do these experience shape how we treat people who have left these negative feelings with us? Are these experiences different when viewed as memories or are the two one in the same? Some experiences are good in the moment but when looked at after a period of time, perhaps after learning new information the memory can become quite sour and vice- versa. Maybe a relationship was tainted by misplaced loyalty and that memory is altered forever. Or perhaps that uncool friend that could always be depended on is appreciated more in retrospect when that 'true friend' disappoints. Loyalty is a rare quality but what conditions allow it to be broken? Or should it be unconditional? Regardless the damage lack of loyalty and the toxic discussions have ensued have seemingly caused major distrust between the two genders. Does trust have a place when traumas still exist? Should one heal before engaging with someone else to stop the cycle of pain? There are many struggles with relationships in general but maybe the amount of options we have is contributing to the problem. Does it fuel desire? Is desire the route to unhappiness or simply an enabler to a more content future. With desires of a better life, many migrants have made the treacherous journey to the western world and yet there have been a distinct coldness in the handling of those seeking safety and stability. When public figures like Banksy and Gary Lineker have to intervene due to lack of government response what does that say? There is an insidious racism that reveals itself overtly from time to time in the UK and the most recent example of this was in the conservatives MP comments to Marcus Rashford who had simply been campaigning for underprivileged kids to be fed.
