Episode 43 – You’re Fired
So, it’s black history month and to open the show we hear instances of black excellence from both the past and current history. Despite the displays of brilliance and ingenuity, business acumen and the ability to strike decisively in areas others cannot proved to be the difference to living life in prosperity or squalor. We are mostly all educated in the same way but why is it that some can break out of the confines of mediocrity and others are not able to? Book smarts are one thing but Is independent learning a vital component? Is it something you either have or you don’t? Or is it a mixture of the two? When it comes to black excellence the way Ryan Leslie has stayed independent and grown a loyal fanbase can only be respected. With so many trapped in 360 deals with the label getting most of the profit, it is a breath of fresh air to know it can be done independently. Not all that glitter is gold however and life as a musician, especially an up and coming one may prove testing. As streams become the main source of income in light of Covid – 19 insight into the numbers needed to bring home money is quite eye opening. With Puregym the latest brand to apologise for tone deaf messages, TheNineToFivers explore how one bad seed can tarnish a brand. Can it be protected against? Would hiring the right people for the right roles or drilling in policies help? Are companies at fault for not breeding the right culture or not incentivising workers? Should it ever get to that stage or should you resign before it happens? Find out about all this and more in an action-packed episode of the NineToFivers Podcast
