In all walks of life when something happens that has never happened before, it is recorded and confined to the history books. But what effect do records have on the masses and more importantly, what effect does it have to those in the industry? Does it become the new target to exceed or should records not be compared? It can seem like we give more praise to people who have turned their lives around after going through a negative phase than those who have always been on the straight and narrow? Is it simply a human trait to prefer a comeback story in comparison to the goody two shoes who have always performed in our society? Is it fair? Does it matter? In a spicy week the fuse has been lit by Chip who sent two firecrackers in the direction of the current golden child of music Stormzy. In what has the potential to the biggest clash grime has ever seen Stormzy has not currently replied and many are not surprised. Chip is the current knock-out king in this arena but is this move by Chip simply defending his honour or is it a simple grasp at clout? Is Stormzy obligated to respond to defend his own reputation? How important is reputation for individuals and what is the value of a brand for a company? We have seen businesses go to amazing lengths to protect what they have built but when is it important to mind your own business and when should you intervene? We come across situations from time to time where we could enquire and get involved but chose not to. Sometimes the more people that are there the less is actually done due to the bystander effect and the diffusion of responsibility. There are certain instances however where people are united in their actions to make a difference and a change. None more so pertinent than SARs which has received a lot of spotlight both from the people of Nigeria and beyond. Make sure to listen to all this and more in another action-packed edition of TheNineToFivers Podcast.
