With the acts of selflessness, we have seen lately seemingly stemming from Marcus Rashford’s fight against child hunger. TheNineToFivers consider the implications of charity and volunteering. Is volunteering specifically still relevant in todays world? In certain industries volunteering was a way to get a foot in the door but is this still the case? What about volunteering time for charitable causes, does that even cross minds for the average joe? Popular figures who have done this and recorded themselves doing so have often been touted as clout chasers, but does the good deed and potential inspiration it provides to others dispel actions done for self-interest? Sometimes though, it is damned if you do, damned if you don’t so you have to do what you think is best and deal with the risks associated with that. What shapes our attitudes to risk though, is this something innate or does this develop through environment? Does our upbringing or own experiences shape this or a combination of the two? There are many aspects of life that people have varying appetites for risk for. From finances to health from business to integrity. Those who are able to apply a healthy dose of risk in their life have the potential to soar above the masses in terms of achievement and lifestyle as seen with the majestic rise of the billion-dollar brand Gymshark. For a company to thrive they usually have a set of values and morals that they stand by even when this is not pleasing to their customer base. Whilst Sainsbury’s retained rating following their response to racism, Tesco decided to duck the smoke entirely by removing their planned all black family advert from circulation. It is something we see far too often; profits often supersede morals and often action is only taken when silence starts to affect the brand and ultimately the coin. Rappers are not only constantly risking their coins with their connection to their road lives but also in certain instances their lives. Can anything be done to stop the cycle of hate? Will the masses continue to support the artists with more dirt on the soles? When people who have inflicted hurt and pain on others end up dying, should they be afforded the same sympathy as civilians or has their lifestyle just caught up to them?
