TheNineToFivers are back! The boys caught the dreaded Covid. It was a testing period but thank God for health and vitality. So much has happened during the absence but the main talking point had to be Euro2020. It was an amazing tournament filled with many surprises, and many emotions, from excitement to anguish, amazement to heartbreak and it concluded in the most tragic way for English fans. A penalty shootout, the finest of margins but unfortunately it wasn’t England’s amazing run to the final that was the major take away from the tournament. It was the blatant racist abuse that was aimed at 3 black british players that had contributed to the team both on and off the field. It highlights how inclusivity is so often predicated on the excellence and success but when it falls short of that so quickly the tune changes. From the ashes came a massive outpouring of love that was really great to see but how things progress moving forward will be a real indication of how seriously this issue is being taken.
