The guest train continues and this week we are joined by XO’s Childhood friend Biyi who joins the team for a discussion on the television shows that have been dominating discussion as of late. Highlife the channel 4 reality show that highlights prosperous and successful first-generation immigrants and provides a welcome variety from the stereotypical media that black people are so often portrayed in. The portrayal of morality in Squid Game however is something else and it is on route to becoming Netflix’s most successful show. It is an accurate depiction of reality when people on the breadline or worse are offered life changing sums of money. Does morality exist if you remove consequences? Are we naturally corrupted by power or do things such as values, compassion and equality still linger in the human heart no matter the level of power or freedom? Schools are planning to impede on the freedom of speech with a ban on slang words. Is it a necessary evil to improve literacy or does it unfairly discriminate against those of a certain cultural standing. Many people are used to code switching especially in corporate environments but is this something that needs to be done or is it something we do to appease those we are around? Appeasing females in the decline if certain accounts are to be taken as gospel as some women now feel that they are grafting for men compared to the other way around.
