When you think about independent hip hop in Pittsburgh in the 2000s you have to consider the role that was played by Basick and the shows that were hosted at the Hkan hookah lounge from 2006-2008. He was one of the first to give stage time to a young Mac Miller, and also headlined shows that Wiz opened very early in his career. Basick Sickness became a band also in the late 2000s and I was a proud member as the DJ. Later it would expand further to five pieces, which can be seen in some of the music videos that were released over these years. Joe the drummer continues to make music with Kid Durango which is a fantastic local band. Basick has moved to California to work in agriculture, and B-Tips became a doctor (that's me). Regardless of the way in turned out the music and videos live on forever. While the conversation took an adversarial turn at times, I think it stands as an accurate vision of our relationship in 2023.
