In this podcast we chat with Jen, Gemma and Jason about their recent Sir Alistair Pilkington Award for Teaching Excellence awarded for their development of Life Sciences students’ digital fluency and employability at scale through the design and implementation of authentic assessment.
Jen Delaney is a Lead Career Consultant in the careers and employability team. She works with academics to embed employability onto the curriculum across the faculty of Health and Life Sciences and develops extra-curricular opportunities for students to enhance their employability. Jen is also involved in the Unlock your Potential (UP) inclusion offer within Careers & Employability, which aims to develop career management skills to specific student groups to level the playing field as they plan for their future employment.
Gemma Wattret is a lecturer in Microbiology and Programme Director for the BSc Microbiology at the School of Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Gemma is on a Teaching and Scholarship pathway and has experience of teaching across all years of study. Gemma’s research interests are in Skills Development, Inclusivity and Widening Participation.
Jason Steers is a Communications and Engagement Project Officer within the careers and employability team. Part of Jason’s role is working with the range of digital employability tools that the University of Liverpool has access to in order to ensure that all students have sufficient access to these during their time at university and beyond. These include Handshake and Shortlist.Me, both of which were utilised within this assessment.
