Our guest today is Emily Chang, CEO of Wunderman Thompson N.A. West. Emily and I both began our careers at Procter and Gamble, and we met in a bible study led by our friend and colleague, Vivienne Bechtold. Years later, Emily’s career has been a meteoric ride up corporate ladders with posts as CEO for McCann Worldgroup in China, CMO of Starbucks China, Chief Commercial Officer at InterContinental Hotels Group, Greater China, and Head of Retail Marketing at Apple for APAC. She is the best-selling author of The Spare Room. Emily has an MBA in Competitive Strategy and Finance; she’s delivered 5 TEDx talks, and she sits on the board of SOS Children’s Villages.
Today, Emily shares some incredible insights as well as some deeply traumatic experiences and how the Lord has met her in them. I don’t want to shy away from talking about these things. But I do want to offer a trigger warning that we will touch on rape in the workplace, and how God brought healing for Emily in an unexpected way. I hope that this episode brings hope to our listeners with similar experiences, hope that God is present with us, in the darkest moments of our lives and that He is able, and determined to bring healing and restoration.
What is a mistake you’ve made lately? How can you stop ruminating, but make time to reflect, receive God’s forgiveness, and move forward?
If you have faced sexual harassment, abuse, or rape, I am so sorry. What happened to you is wrong, and it's not your fault. If you need support, please call 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) and talk to someone who is trained to help individuals deal with sexual assault. As Emily said, her choice to stay in her role and wait to say something is not for everyone. I pray that the Lord meets you deeply as you process and heal from this trauma.
