Happy Birthday to Kristen! We recorded this episode on her birthday, January 6th.

Becky and Kristen talk about the inner mean girl - that bully that mentally beats you up over any and all mistakes. Believe it or not, this part of you actually wants the best for you but we definitely don't like the way it’s being communicated.

*What possible positive intention could your inner critic have for you? Becky's inner critic pushes her and tells her she isn't doing enough because it’s afraid she'll quit. We can understand the positive intention without believing the lies. All bullies lie, and our inner bully is no exception.

We all need love, safety and belonging. Doing new things can be scary and that primitive part of the brain (the one responsible for keeping you alive) does not want anything to happen to you. Your inner critic stems from that part of your brain and actually wants something good for you (even if we don’t like the method she is using to get your attention).

Kristen and Becky expose their inner critics and explain why it’s good to listen closely to the inner bully. Evaluate if what it is saying is true (it isn’t). Next, get curious. What do you want for me, little mean girl? When you realize that this part of you is trying to get your attention and has a reason that is actually for your ultimate good, you make peace with this inner critic and she can stop bullying you.

No matter where you are on the self-love spectrum, you are doing important work. When you love yourself you do not become selfish. You have so much more to give. When you are filled up and empowered all you want to do is help others feel the same way.

Look for the proof that your inner critic is wrong about you. You can learn to tame your inner critic but it never goes away and that's normal. Work at finding your light, your love and your good parts.
