How do you define your goals? Are they typically: “I want to lose weight,” “I want to advance my career,” or perhaps “I want to be in a meaningful relationship?”
Or, do you define your goals like this: “I want to lose 10 lbs in 3 months to look good in my tux at my brother’s wedding,” “I want to become a Vice President within my company in the next 5 years by growing my current business unit from $50 million of revenue a year to $150 million of revenue a year,” or “I want to find someone who shares my values, sees the world as I do, and is in the same stage of life as I am to date.”
How we define our goals is a critical part of us actually achieving our goals. The more distinct and specific our goals are, the easier they are to achieve through key definable actions. When our goals are left broad, they are more characteristic of what we desire – another critical component of our success.
When we truly know what we desire in life, we can more easily craft specific goals around them that lead to tangible actions for us to take.
