Gardening has been scientifically proven to have a variety of therapeutic benefits including stress reduction, improved mood, social interaction, and the nutritional benefits of eating your own food. Combine that with a commitment to the community, and positive, skill-building programming for youth and you’ve got A Home Beneath Our Feet.
On this episode of The Public Good, Dejia James talks with Dwight Lowe, Founder and Director of A Home Beneath Our Feet, a nonprofit organization geared towards providing our youth the platforms to become the best version of themselves through gardening and a holistic education initiative.
Dwight talks about how he got into gardening and experienced the therapeutic benefits, inspiring him to create a space for others to heal, learn grow, and connect with nature. He gives an overview of Home Beneath Our Feet programming, including the integration of STEM education, and teaching skills like coding and financial literacy.
Listen to hear about Dwight’s vision for A Home Beneath Our Feet, the organization’s Sensory Garden, and other community gardens, and how you can get involved and support the organization!
