In the first guest conversation of this show, Dr. Njeri Karianjahi talks with her friend Dr. Naomi Kiniu who views her fellowship experience as a shared one with her family and support system. This is the first of several stories from cardiology subspecialists that will be featured in season one of Fellowship Safaris.
Episode highlights:
Dr. Naomi Kiniu subspecialised in pediatric cardiology in Malaysia.
During her application process she sought advice from mentors and colleagues.
Before beginning her fellowship, she took extra work hours to learn pediatric cardiology skills to prepare while in Kenya.
She carefully planned her fellowship duration, location and finances together with her partner and family.
In Malaysia she experienced a language barrier and limitations in travel due to COVID pandemic restrictions.
Her spiritual practice and communication with family kept her grounded during the fellowship.
