Nephi is a broken human too. I believe the spirit of fear is the spirit of our natural man. I believe Nephi was leading with the spirit of fear which led him to kill somebody- breaking a commandment. The spirit of love leads to life, creativity, and growth - good things. Fear leads to bad things.
