On Episode 14 we’re thrilled to be in conversation with Meg Weber. Meg starts by reading an essay she wrote about clouds, her love of skyscapes, and how the sky mirrors her grief. She says, “What I’ve learned from watching clouds: nothing remains the same.”
Meg has experienced multiple griefs. She talks openly about her sister’s death by suicide and how that changed her in being with others as they grieve. “I try to make space for people to talk about it, to tell me what happened if they want to. . . . I just want to be someone they can tell the whole thing to and not have to edit.”
Talking about self-care, Meg shares what she does around death anniversaries. She’s learned to leave the day open, not plan, not anticipate. She tries to have a loose day and encourages others to not “pre-decide how they’re going to feel because grief will show up in so many different ways.”
Meg also says that grief has changed her appreciation of the here and now. She doesn’t wait to tell people she loves them. Doesn’t wait to do the thing she wants to do. “I really understand we don’t know how much time we have.”
Meg Weber loves words, stripes, and Muppets. Her writing is featured in The Quotable, MUTHA Magazine, Rabble Lit, Open Secrets, and in anthologies by Seal Press, Pact Press, and Sincyr Publishing. Her debut memoir, A Year of Mr. Lucky, launched in 2021. She lives in her hometown of Portland, Oregon with her teenager and their labradoodle named Portland.
