Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested Friday morning en route to the PGA championship in Louisville, Kentucky, charged with assaulting a police officer after allegedly attempting to bypass traffic caused by a pedestrian fatality investigation. The incident, which involved a pedestrian struck by a bus, led to significant traffic delays around the Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler reportedly refused to comply with a detective's instructions and accelerated, causing the officer to suffer injuries. He was booked for multiple offenses and has a court hearing scheduled for Tuesday. In a statement, Scheffler called the incident a misunderstanding, emphasizing he did not intend to disobey police. Despite the arrest, Scheffler played in the tournament that day, shooting five under par.
