When a man sold his house in 1999, the new owners saw the barrel during their final walkthrough inspection and asked that it be removed before their move-in date. The new owner and the current owner worked together to move the barrel down to the curb to be picked up in the trash collection. The day after the trash ran, though, he found the barrel to still be there with a note attached, stating that it was too heavy to pick up and the homeowners would have to find a way to dispose of it themselves. This is when the homeowner and his friend decided to open up the barrel with a screwdriver and see what was inside, likely hoping to break down some of the weight into more manageable pieces. As soon as the barrel was open, the men were met with an unimaginably foul odor, and what looked like a human hand and a woman’s shoe. They closed the barrel back up and called the police.
