At around 7 AM, on August 11th, 2008, an 18-year-old woman, known as Marie, was asleep in the home she had moved into at the Alderbrooke Apartments after aging out of foster care, when someone opened the unlocked sliding door to her apartment. Unbeknownst to Marie, this intruder had already broken into her apartment twice before to familiarize himself with the layout of her home. Once inside, the intruder took the laces out of a pair of Marie’s shoes, as well as a knife from her kitchen, and crept into her bedroom.
