Cyntoia Denise Brown had a complex childhood. She was adopted at a young age and struggled with her identity, her impulses, and later with abusive relationships and substance use. At 16, the same age her biological mother was when she got pregnant with her, Cyntoia found herself getting in a car with 43 year old, Johnnie Allen. They were headed to his home to have a sexual encounter at an agreed upon price of $150. In his bed, Cyntoia grabbed the gun from her purse and shot and killed Johnnie Allen. Was she scared for her life? Was she a cold blooded killer?
