Episode Summary:
Pride and ego are healthy and alive as they are in all of us. It is up to us to seek Christ and release that ego and pride when it does show up by rebuking it, by handing it to the Lord and allowing him to take it. In this episode, we talk about the many ways you can begin to release pride and ego when they begin to show up in various situations.
Key Points Covered:
Pride and Ego often show up when we become defensive about something or someone
Reflect and ask yourself, why do I feel like this? How can I heal this to move forward?
Sit quietly, listen and be aware of what is making you feel this way and how can you move forward
Be curious as you go into a situation that may be different
Go back and study the word to help you carry verses in your heart to take the right steps and help you become teachable
Mentioned Scriptures:
Proverbs 16:16-25 (KJV) "How much better is it to get wisdom than gold and to get understanding rather than to be chosen than silver. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He that keepeth his way, preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before the destruction. And a haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of a humble spirit with a, with lowly, then to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good and whoso trusteth in the Lord. Happy is he. The wise in heart shall be called prudent and the sweetness of their lips increases learning. Understanding is a wellspring of life, unto him that hath it. But the instruction of fools is folly. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. Pleasant words are as honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
James 1:19-20 (NIV) “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”
The Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 5-7
Proverbs 11:2 "When pride comes, then comes disgrace. But with humility comes wisdom."
Matthew 5:29 (KJV) “And if thy right eye offends thee, pluck it out, cast it from thee, for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”
