In this episode, I chat with Professor Michael Tenzer. Professor Tenzer is a renowned ethnomusicologist, composer, and educator whose work spans performance, composition, research, and teaching. A professor at the University of British Columbia since 1996, Professor Tenzer is celebrated for his lifelong engagement with Balinese gamelan music, having co-founded Gamelan Sekar Jaya in California and directed Vancouver's Gamelan Gita Asmara. His influential work integrates scholarship on many kinds of music as well as cross-cultural compositions, and has shaped the global understanding of world music. Professor Tenzer’s publications and teaching, including the award-winning course Musical Rhythm and Human Experience, have inspired a more inclusive approach to music education worldwide. A passionate mentor and performer, Professor Tenzer’s contributions continue to enrich the world of music.
