Influencer marketing is one of the biggest opportunity for marketers to take advantage of today. Brands who can dominate this space are going to be miles ahead of their competition. In this interview, Joe Sinkwitz, CEO of Intellifluence, shares his origin story and breaks down his influencer marketing platform.
Joe is the son of a programmer, which is extraordinary because in the 1980's, his family was one of the first in their entire city to own a personal computer. He was one of the first members of generation x that had experience with computers.
Most of his peers didn't get exposure to those devices until high school. This skewed Joe's outlook on technology and put him ahead of the game. His father, in his 70s, is still an active programmer and could be the oldest living programmer who still gets paid.
Joe ended up being very entrepreneurial growing up with a variety of side businesses - some of which were questionable. For example, he lived near a golf course, and Joe would get golf balls that had been hit off of the course, polish them, and sell them back to the golfers.
Realizing that the drink carts charged quite a bit of money, he would also go buy beverages at the grocery store and sell to the golfers on the course for half the price of the drink carts until he got a cease and desist at age 12.
He was also a sandwich artist in high school, but hated it after recognizing the lack of scalability of making sandwiches. However, he did notice that the guy next door selling videos loved sandwiches. In return for giving the man a free sandwhich every day, the video store owner let Joe have expired videos for free.
These videos, of high appeal to high schoolers, literally paid Joe's way through college. In college, he tried to start a bunch of companies, and while he didn't succeed with them, learned a ton about niching down and avoiding being too broad of a company.
Through experimentation, he eventually fell into SEO working with a dentist, which ignited his passion in search marketing. But, he decided to get a "real job" for a few years and built tax software for KPMG which paid well but was boring.
He then spent a few decades in the search marketing world, researching, learning, keynoting, and making tons of money through various key phrases on the internet. Now, he is dedicated to influencer marketing, seeing it as the next biggest play in the digital marketing space.
