More of the business world is moving online every single day. Regardless of what industry you are in, some aspect of your business has been affected by the internet. In this interview, Tom Hunt, Tedx Speaker, shares his origin story of learning internet marketing for small business.
Most entrepreneurs have a story of selling something when they were very young and falling in love with with the idea of making money and working for themselves. Tom Hunt does not have that story. He followed the regular path that was expected of him, earned a degree in chemistry, and got a job. When he was 22 years old, he and some friends decided to try to meet some girls at a local market. They opened a shop and after they sold their first product, Tom realized that he could help people and earn a living! He decided then that being an entrepreneur and helping others was what he wanted to be about.
Tom is a middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. He has always been competitive with his older brother, who could get into the better school or get the better job. His drive to be successful has stemmed from this competition with his brother. The feeling that you get when you're the underdog and you win cannot be beat. It's amazing to be the guy who nobody thinks could win and come out on top.
He says that one of the biggest lessons any entrepreneur needs to learn is to stop caring about what other people think. An entrepreneur has to dream big dreams and do crazy things to be successful. Most people will tell you that it's not worth it, that it won't work. Entrepreneurs have to learn to stop seeking their approval and do what is best for them.
