Description

This week on the Race, Wealth, and Health podcast, our host is joined by her friend and colleague, Dr. Keneshia Grant, for a powerful conversation about choice, resilience, and defining family on your own terms. Dr. Grant opens up about her experience with IVF, the challenges of dealing with fibroids, and how she formed a modern family structure with the help of a gay male couple—whom she affectionately calls her "baby daddies." Through it all, she highlights the importance of having the freedom to shape your life in a way that aligns with your values and aspirations.

The conversation also touches on the broader implications of today’s political climate, including threats to reproductive rights and civil liberties. Dr. Grant’s story is both deeply personal and widely relevant, offering insight and inspiration for anyone navigating their own journey of self-determination.

Dr. Grant is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where her research and teaching focus on state and local government and Black voters. She is also the author of The Great Migration and the Democratic Party: Black Voters and the Realignment of American Politics in the 20th Century (2020, Temple University Press).
