I interviewed Dr. David Petrovay. I was the first generation in his family to attend college. He now holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of Arizona. He's certified in Steps I and II of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), as well as The Emotion Code, a certified career coach and counselor through the National Career Development Association and he's also an author and blogger. His family prior to this, primarily his father and uncle my father worked in semi-skilled occupations. As a young boy, Dr. Petrovary was very fascinated with psychology which he claimed led him into the line of work he does today.
Dr. David Petrovay said that during his career he has worked in a variety of settings including schools, nonprofits, career one-stops, and private practice. He served on university, hospital, and career one-stop advisory boards. Eventually, he chose to go into private practice allowing himself to learn what it is like to be a business owner. He deeply believes that every setting allowed him to gain experience that he can apply to his work with clients. He feels that it has also given him the opportunity to write three books in his areas of interest. Dr. David Petrovay considers himself to be a lifelong learner, so he's usually enrolled in a professional growth class to constantly hone his professional skills.
