Tuesday, April 15th: In part two of Luke 23, we follow Jesus on His final steps to the cross—and every detail carries weight. As He stumbles under the weight of the cross, Simon of Cyrene is pulled from the crowd to help carry it. Women weep for Him, and Jesus, even in agony, warns them of the greater sorrow still to come. He is crucified between two criminals, mocked by leaders and soldiers, but He speaks no curses—only mercy. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” One criminal hurls insults, but the other cries out for mercy—and receives the most beautiful promise: “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” At noon, darkness covers the land. Jesus cries out and breathes His last, and at that moment, the temple curtain is torn in two. The barrier between God and humanity is forever broken. A centurion praises God. Bystanders mourn. And His followers watch from a distance—grieving, stunned, changed. Jesus is laid in a borrowed tomb, but this is not the end. It’s the beginning of redemption.
