I knew about Jerome while reading the fine print on every snowboard mag I could put my hands on. This was not an easy task being a snowboarder from Argentina, very much so as getting cool music in the nineties, cool people bringing actual copies, same with mags.
It wasn’t until that “ The eternal beauty of snowboarding “ came out, an honest movie about what it looks and how it feels to be a snowboarder but made with a big dose of humor and cynicism that this filmer/ photographer/ director caught my attention differently.
Not to mention that Grego Campi, , friend of mine and argentine snowboard filmer is one of his main characters, describing him as the hard working, passionate snowboarder and milanesa lover that he is.
Right after that, another blow, the definite one, “ Zabardast ” , a full blown 3 week expedition to Pakistan’s snow covered Karakorum range with skiers and snowboarders together.
This personal diary driven movie sealed the deal, mostly thanks to its personal and honest depiction of the real highs and lows involved in grasping new limits, both physical and emotional ones.
That’s when this idea that I’ve been wondering about for a while felt stronger, when doing something that feels pure, this energy travels further and deeper.
So I didn’t wait any longer and contacted Jerome to have a chat. Luckily he said yes, although super busy with yet another passionate, pure and honest project, heroes, an all female snowboard book dedicated to all the female rippers around the world, which we talked about extensively.
We chat about all of this and more, from being genuine, lazy, hardworking, and getting away from the american way of making movies and into the realness of life on top of wooden planks.
Bare with me the first part as my english started to get the rust off! it gets better, sort of.
Thanks for dialing into Estamos Vivos, and here we go, Jerome Tanon, a chance for purity.
