5. A Few of the Week's Accomplishments
- Earlier today, I signed the continuing resolution to fund the government.
- I marched in Washington, D.C. with Diné families to advocate for the passage of RECA Amendments and reauthorization.
- Yesterday, I testified before the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs asking that they support our two water rights settlements.
- Through a contract with Navajo-owned company Bitco we will build 95 homes for veterans.
- The Navajo Nation Veterans Administration orchestrated the donation of 500-supply kits from the AZ National Guard and the Northern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System for Navajo veterans.
- Crownpoint Youth Complex grand opening.
- The Office of Navajo Nation Scholarship and Financial Assistance has expended all FY'24 scholarship funds: $30.2 million in awards.
6. Major Projects I Am Working On
- The Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas committed to continue working with the Navajo Nation on tribal-issued REALIDs.
- The Department of Personnel Management has successfully implemented its online job application portal.
- Heavy equipment purchases for chapters are underway.
- Navajo Nation EPA and the Navajo Nation Washington Office are working with US Representative Theresa Leger Fernandez to push forward abandoned uranium mine initiatives.
- The Division of Natural Resources assisted with the transportation of 130 fruit trees from Farmington to Cottonwood Chapter for youth farming activities.
7. Meet & Greets
- I met with Senators Sinema, Kelly, and Murkowski to discuss advancing the Navajo Nation's water settlement agreement in Arizona through Congress.
8. Upcoming Events
- "Rez Ball" officially on Netflix September 27.
- We will promote health and wellness through the Wellness Warrior Fitness Series.
- Horseshoe Bend Development business site leasing.
