I need to clear something up after the last episode. You only accept, believe, and surrender to ideas that are equal to your emotional state. This means that if you’re not aware of how you’re feeling, you may not understand why things aren’t being heard or aren’t getting through.
For instance, when I was talking with my mom and she was in a panicked state, I didn’t tell her to calm down because she would not have wanted to hear that and therefore wouldn’t have heard it, you know. Instead, I was able to let her speak (while not taking her emotions on) and not react but rather pause and then begin to ask her how she was feeling so we could get to the heart of the emotional state at hand.
In doing this, she realized her emotional state and then understood why she was reacting the way she was and could calm down on her own. Then she was able to hear me and we had a good conversation.
So, it’s important to hold your own energy and bring your presence to hold space for someone. Remember you do not need to match their emotions as that will not be helpful to anyone.
