Description

Asma is a social worker, therapist, and mother. She is also a Muslim, Arab woman whose grandfather was displaced during the 1948 Nakba. As such, Asma was born into the cause for Palestinian liberation.

Asma has been tirelessly teaching the world about what is happening in Gaza and Occupied Palestine, with a steady balance of compassion and urgency. In our conversation, she speaks with honesty about her own process of learning and unlearning, the need to show bravery now, and the danger of people claiming to be neutral during genocide.

As a therapist, she explains what it means to take a break from the work, the problem with the western mental health messages centering the self, and why it feels like my anxiety has vanished during this traumatic time for humanity.

Please enjoy, the powerful and heartfelt Asma.
