HEAR Journaling - Genesis 15
Highlight – Genesis 15:12-16 New Living Translation
12 As the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a terrifying darkness came down over him. 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth. 15 (As for you, you will die in peace and be buried at a ripe old age.) 16 After four generations your descendants will return here to this land, for the sins of the Amorites do not yet warrant their destruction.”
Explain – God explains to Abraham that his descendants will make a great nation, that they will be slaves for 400 years in Egypt, which of course does come to pass. Remember at this point, Abram, who will become Abraham, had not had Isaac as yet. He was approaching 100 years of age, but with God all things are possible.
Apply - This biblical prophecy of Israel being enslaved for 400 years in Egypt did come to pass. We can have utmost confidence in God and His Living Word, the Bible. There are prophesies about upcoming times of tribulation and turmoil that are coming to fruition right before our eyes. Have no fear, because the Word of God, the Bible, tells us about our redemption from our enslavement to this sinful word. We are saved and will live with the Lord for eternity.
Hebrews 11:16 ESV But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.
Isaiah 65:17-19 ESV “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress.
Isaiah 65:25 ESV The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.
1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
John 3:16 ESV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Psalm 16:11 ESV You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Daniel 12:2 ESV
Revelation 2:7 ESV
Respond- Thank You Lord for Your faithful promises. I look forward to the day that I will leave this sinful world to dwell with You and other faithful followers through eternity. I pray for those that do not know You, that they will yield to Your unction and become faithful and obedient followers too, Amen.
